Samsung SSP Network Requirements

This article details the network requirements for compatible Samsung Business displays

Welcome to the network requirements guide for Eyemagnet Display software on Samsung Smart Signage Platform (SSP) enabled business displays.

We recommend that Cat6 cabling (or higher) should be used for any internet connectivity. WiFi connectivity is also available (model dependent) but may produce a sub-optimal result depending on the quality of the WiFi network.

Network Requirements

A Samsung SSP display using Eyemagnet Display software requires the following network services to be provided within the network segment they are using:

  • DHCP services providing dynamic IP addressing, network mask information, default gateway information and domain name server information
  • Access to the local NTP time source (if required)

Public NTP services can be used (as detailed below) if this service cannot be provided by the local network.

If you have different requirements, please contact your Eyemagnet representative for more information.

Firewall Rules (recommended)

A Samsung SSP display using Eyemagnet Display software requires the following firewall  rules to operate:

Port Number Protocol Rule Type Destination(s) Description
53 (1) UDP Outbound

8.8.8.8

8.8.4.4

Access to Google DNS Services
80 TCP Outbound

*.eyemagnet.com

Access to Eyemagnet Configuration services
443 TCP Outbound ANY HTTPS access to Eyemagnet Cloud services and third-party content sources

1 Access to Google DNS services can be removed if these services are provided by the internal network.

Firewall Rules (restrictive)

The following firewall rules can be used where a more restrictive approach to network security is required:

Port Number Protocol Rule Type Destination(s) Description
53 (1) UDP Outbound

8.8.8.8

8.8.4.4

Access to Google DNS Services
80 TCP Outbound *.eyemagnet.com Access to Eyemagnet Configuration services
443 (2) TCP Outbound *.eyemagnet.com HTTPS access to Eyemagnet Cloud services

1 Access to Google DNS services can be removed if these services are provided by the internal network.

2 Additional rulesets may need to be configured if third-party web content (i.e. widgets, dashboards or streams) are to be consumed by the Eyemagnet Display devices.

When using the restrictive ruleset, any reliance on third-party data sources, widgets or HTML5 content will also need additional rules to be applied as dictated by the content provider.
