Configure Tags

The following article explains what Tags and Default Tags are and outlines how to add Tags to Screens and Playlist entries.

Tags

Tags are keywords you can use to set up restrictions around what content is to display on a Screen.

Firstly, Screens will need to have Tags assigned to them, then Tags can be added to Playlist entries to dynamically control what Media is displaying on each Screen.

Add Tags to a Screen

To add a Tag to a Screen, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Screens page.
  2. Click on a Screen in the Screen Library to open up the Settings panel.
  3. Scroll down to the Tags field.
  4. Start typing in the Tag/s of your choice and push the return key. To add multiple Tags, add a comma after a Tag.
  5. Click the Save button to apply the Tags.

Add Tags to a Playlist entry

To add a Tag to a Playlist entry, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Playlists page.
  2. Click on a Playlist in the Playlist Library.
  3. Next, click on a Playlist entry, to open the Media properties.
  4. Scroll down to the Tags field.
  5. Start typing in the Tag/s of your choice and push the return key. To add multiple Tags, add a comma after a Tag.
  6. Choose a Tag Filtering option.
  7. Click the Save button to apply the Tags.

Tag filtering

Tag filtering provides a wide range of advanced scheduling opportunities. Many possible implementations are depending on the needs of your digital signage displays.

There are three behaviours of Tag filtering:

  • Any: The Media item will be displayed on a Screen if any of the Screen Tags match the Media item’s Tags.
  • All: The Media item will be displayed on a Screen if all the Screen Tags match the Media item’s Tags.
  • None: The Media item will only be displayed on a Screen if none of the Screen’s Tags matches any of the Media item’s Tags.

For example, a venue could have a single marketing Playlist set up to play on all advertising Screens.

Tag filtering could be applied to filter this Playlist based on the area of the Screens; such as indoor and outdoor, or based on retailers in proximity to avoid a clash of interest with marketing.

Default Tags

Default Tags are an advanced feature to be used deliberately and systematically and should not be used for basic categorisation of Media Items for search purposes.

Instead, use consistent naming conventions and Media Item comments for searching purposes.

Add a Default Tag

To add a Default Tag, follow these steps:

  1. Click on a Media item in the Media Library.
  2. Next, type out a word in the Default Tags field.
  3. Start typing in the Tag/s of your choice and push the return key. To add multiple Tags, add a comma after a Tag.
  4. Click the Save button to apply the changes.

If you add a Default Tag to your Media item that is already within a Playlist, then the Default Tag will not be pulled through to a Playlist entry. You'll have to replace your Media item within that Playlist.

To replace content across multiple Playlists, see Media Item Usage.
